Very cool atmosphere. Drinks are great. 2 for 1 makes my whole night. Food is great. I got the enchilada rancho and my boyfriend got steak fajitas and he loved them. My friend got shrimp fajitas and she loved them too! Bean dip is awesome and free. Salsa isn't bad but definitely not my favorite. Service is pretty quick, but I've had a different experience with service every time I've been. Take out here is pretty good too

The tortilla soup has been the ONLY thing on the menu that I didn't like. Very good food - very fast service. We eat lunch here a couple of times a month.

We love Zapattas but were curious about this new location. Cant tell you if the food was good. Went in on a Sunday at 4p. Barely got eye contact from a hostess who placed us in a section with another 4 tables occupied. After 5-10 minutes with no server and seeing 3-4 employees hanging around the back we decided to cut our losses and got to where we always enjoys Mexican food in Baton Rouge. The Manager or owner thanked us on the way out and I had to tell him we didn't eat and were leaving. He tried to get us to stay but honestly, I am not interested. Like they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Went to El Paso last night. Margaritas were delicious and made my visit fuzzy towards the end. The food was good, prices were decent, and margaritas made me forget it was 7pm and I should stick to one since I (painfully) had work this morning. Service was kind of slow, or maybe it seemed slow when my tequila supply was dwindling and I couldn't find the waiter to get more chips in a desperate attempt to soak up the alcohol. Or maybe he didn't want me to leave since it took him 10 minutes to pick up my payment. I really enjoyed their chips, salsa, and bean dip. I don't even like bean dip but I was gobbling down some bean dip! I ordered the chimichanga which was decent although it gave me flashbacks to the buffet at a Mexican resort I went to last Fall. Churros more reminded me of super sized cinnamon twist things that Taco Bell sells. Tres Leches was quite delicious. Margaritas. Don't worry. I wasn't driving and I made it to work this morning.

Came to El Paso with my friends who are locals and I wish they had brought me here sooner! As with most Mexican restaurants they bring chips and salsa to the table but the bean dip was a really nice change and it was delicious! My BFF and I each ordered a large margarita and holy cow are those things huge! Easily 4 drinks in one glass! My friend and her boyfriend ordered their regular meals of fajitas and enchiladas (which they both finished their plates clean so that speaks for itself), while I went with the loco nachos! That was hands down one good plate of food! I really appreciated the presentation and even better that the hot plate of meats (yeah that's meats with and s, steak, chicken and shrimp) and cheese was separate of the cold plate with guac, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes. I've never had it presented to me like that before, and I wish mores restaurants did that. We had really great service which always makes good food even better, I can't wait to come back and visit!

They need to clean up the place. Hopefully you will not have to use the restroom. My shirt is ruined from something that was on the back of the booth seat, it appears to be grease. The shirt was $90 and I can't get it out. My husband's shirt had the grease on it as well. The food is okay. The bean dip is good. Drinks are good.

I really wanted this place to have great Mexican food but based on my lunch experience today that just wasn't the case. First the good: Prompt friendly greeting at the door and great service throughout my visit. Ice cold beer mug, colorful surroundings and a sincere effort to fix a kitchen error. Now the not so good: They use very poor quality American cheese in the cheese enchiladas that dissolves into a sauce like mess and has no flavor. This might explain why the first plate of enchiladas was lukewarm (even though the actual plate it was served on was piping hot). They reheated it and then I noticed the liquid tasteless cheese so I asked the waitress what kind of cheese. She confirmed it was American style cheese (better known as cheese food) and asked if I would prefer something else. I thought this was an outstanding show of customer service and I accepted the offer to reorder. I ended up trying the chicken flautas. Normally these are crispy and shaped like flutes, these were flat and semi soggy. The filling was tasty and the guacamole that came with it was fresh enough but not the best. The flan was curdled (some call this mealy) but did have a nice flavor. I ended up having 2 individual chicken flautas, a small side of guacamole, extra jalapenos, 1 Coors lite beer and flan for dessert. The total bill came to $20.55 and I left feeling I overpaid and knowing I would never return. I would have given 3 stars because the service was so good but then I saw the unkempt ladies room and had to take one away.

El Paso is one of my main go to restaurants for Mexican food in the Baton Rouge area. The food is always piping hot, delicious, and tastes pretty authentic. The bean dip is yum and we usually order the fajita trio. The portions are good sized and we actually can split a single plate and still have a good bit leftover to bring home and eat on later. I would definitely recommend El Paso to anyone and actually have brought out of town family here and everyone seemed to enjoy the food as well.

I had not heard of this place but the bf wanted to go since he wants to also be Mexican. We stopped in for lunch (which unfortunately means no margaritas) and I ordered the taco plate with one of each. The tacos were served with all the toppings on the side and some really great hot sauce. The chicken was just okay but that was not a huge surprise. The steak was very juicy and seasoned well. But let's be real...my favorite was the carnitas...WOW! I must first admit that carnitas, when done correctly, are top of my list. But these were really delicious and there were even a few little crunchy pieces from the outside. Did I mention these were phenomenal? I definitely will be back for more and hopefully to try some margaritas too.

I'll admit that my review is biased since I'm Mexican. I came in as I was on a road trip. Ordered the enchilada platter; ugh, why did I do that? The platter consisted of 4 enchiladas (generous portion). The enchiladas were Cheese (you can't mess that up, unless you're an idiot), Beef (the beef was ground & salty, reminded me of taco bell), Chicken (it was dry, unflavored, and unevenly shredded), and Bean. Seriously, is there such a thing as a Bean enchilada?! Not in Mexico! They literally rolled a tortilla w beans and called it an enchilada! Ugh, such a disappointment! But the staff was attentive and the beer was cold. If anyone wants real Mexican food come on over to my place! Tequila shots on me!

My family likes this Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. I have tried many of the dishes on our visits to the restuarant and I have liked them all. My favorite is the steak quesadillas. My family and I are now regular visitors to this restaurant. We recommend it as a good mainstream Tex-Mex stop.

Such amazing service and food! We stopped by for lunch, sat on the porch and enjoyed a delicious meal. Definitely recommend it!

Came in expecting very little - was pleasantly surprised! Had the shrimp soup and it was delicious! Definitely not for the spice-shy! Kids and hub loved it too! Kids tacos had lots of meat, and cheese quesadillas were a hit. Chicken enchiladas with mole sauce were really good.

I have dined here several times and the food is inconsistent. Sometimes the ingredients are fresh and the meal is above average, other times I might as well have gone to Taco Bell. The staff is friendly and the food is served reasonably fast.

I ordered the verde chicken enchiladas and they were great. The queso was very good as well. The inside remodel looks nice and the staff was friendly.

Definitely not the best Mexican in town. I had the el Paso favorite for lunch and got a soggy burrito, a soggy enchilada, and a soggy shell underneath less than fresh toppings. Enchilada sauce tasted like it was from a can. I've had better guacamole from a grocery store. My fiance got the shrimp tacos and the shrimp definitely were not fresh. Atmosphere and music is inviting and welcoming, but if you're coming for the food, it's better to go not even a mile down Coursey to Casa La Vida. I probably will not be coming back again.

Good good food. Fresh shrimp made it very flavorful. Definitely coming back here. Mariachi band lit it up!

I can only give this a 1 star rating. The food is terrible. Went twice and got fajitas the first time and enchiladas the second time neither were good. The enchiladas were nothing but queso on the inside of a tortilla and topped with the same, just couldn't eat it. STAY AWAY IT SUCKS !

I'm surprised by all of the negative reviews on here! My family and I have never been disappointed in El Paso's food! The salsa and bean dip are great starters. I usually get a #53 (I forget the name)- a huge burrito filled with your choice of meat and refried beans, topped with salsa Verde and queso. I always opt for the steak as my meat choice- whatever they marinate it in is great. Great atmosphere, quick service and large portions. Give it a try!

The veggie fajitas were delicious. The margaritas were smooth and tart and 2 for 1. Worth coming again.

After hearing some promising things from one of the customers at work, I resolved to try El Paso. A few weeks later I got the chance to go and was severely disappointed. The place has a nice atmosphere and it's tough to tell that it was an applebees previously. They were busy that night so I was pleased with the fairly attentive service my friend and I received. When we were seated they brought both salsa and bean dip. The salsa was awful and salty and had an oily look to it as mentioned in another review. The been dip was ok but nothing to write home about. Prices were quite high for comparable tex-mex places in the area. I ended up getting a chili relleno and a bowl of chili. At first I was impressed with the chili relleno because it was quite large, but upon cutting into it I was incredibly displeased to discover that it was filled with queso sauce. I'm not even sure how they managed to do that, but lets just say all the filling immediately ran out into the plate and I was left with a messy breaded pepper. The queso sauce was fairly bland. The bowl of chili again looked promising, sporting many chunks of seemingly varied meats. If I had to guess, the chili is made from all the scraps left over after prepping their other meats. One bite informed me that this chili was a serious threat for sodium overload. I tasted nothing but salt and it burned my tongue. I wound up just picking out some of the chunks of meat to eat because they weren't as salty as the broth part. My buddy had some tacos which he said were adequate. I would personally probably never come back here nor would I recommend it to others. Baton Rouge is full of tex-mex places and this one just doesn't make the cut. That said, why even bother with tex-mex when there are plenty of authentic taquerias around?

Went here because a friend raved about the queso. Being from Arizona and not a fan of tex mex I was suspicious but went with a bunch of people for a birthday anyway. Let me just say this...if you consider yourself a mexican restaurant you should AT LEAST have good fresh salsa. This stuff tasted like cooked pasta sauce from a jar. No joke. It even had that oily sheen pasta sauce has. It was NOT good! Their traditional street tacos, which are usually a safe bet for non tex lex fans like myself, were over priced so I got a flauta which is just a new name for taquito (which was news to me). It came with guac which was nice of them considering they were going to make me pay extra for sour cream and pico for a quesadilla. My friend ordered some combo plate that was covered in some red sauce and I COULD be wrong but it looked like her tamale was made with ground beef. Oh...and it was cold. She asked our waitress to microwave it and she kindly took it and nuked it for her...didn't apologize or anything. I feel bad bc we were there until closing so they probably weren't thrilled that we were there but there is no excuse for that "salsa". My waitress also didn't know the difference between carnitas and el pastor...she said she would find out but she never told me. That's fine I can google but I feel like that's something a waitress should know. I also won't go into detail but she almost spilled some sauce on one of my friends and then he had to ask her to bring a replacement bc that wasn't obvious to her. I don't know...if you appreciate a real mexican food I wouldn't waste your time or money. It's not the fault of our waitress that the food was garbage and I understand waiting tables can suck but she wasn't happy about her life in this moment and it was obvious. Ok one positive thing was that along with their crap salsa you had a bean dip option. Wasn't delicious but it was an option...I like options! To all my west coast friends who like mexican food I suggest any taqueria around Baton Rouge. That's about as close as your gonna get :(

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
